2021 - 3 goals to focus on!

 New Year's Goals!

New Year and Christmas were obviously very odd this year. It felt as if we'd had a year of practically nothing, no set schedule, no clear plans outside of our own homes and workplaces. Most people experienced strong emotional pain one way or another. Grief, loss, loss of hope, a strong sense of worry and confusion. I felt that I had made the most of everything I had, and I noticed a lot of people were learning and growing throughout Lockdown periods. It was also a great time to connect with people online and make new friendships that can last a lifetime. I could write a whole essay on it! Right now though, I wanted to share some goals I have going forward into 2021 to document, enjoy!

  • Having an even more positive attitude
Okay, I know I talk about how I feel that I've grown in confidence, and I know I've always been a positive person (ask my closest friends), but this year, I want to be positive consistently - no more "I'm not good enough," "what if the worst happens"... etc. Even if something bad does happen, it's okay. Sometimes I don't even notice I'm doing it! I watched a video on YouTube this morning by Matthew Hussey about confidence and it was so interesting. He talked about making the best of what you have and the 'lottery tickets' that YOU have won not what someone else has. If someone else was born with great qualities, that's great, but we have great qualities too that we need to focus on. It was a brilliant message.

  • Start new hobbies
Now you might be wondering- Lucy, don't you do enough already? Honestly, I have a long list of things I'd love to do! I want to incorporate these into my day-to-day life in 2021, hopefully just after summer when I finish my degree. It's going to be hard to say goodbye to University. I really have enjoyed my time there! Along with these, I am going to keep up with my YouTube channel as mentioned above. I plan to make similar content to my blog but a lot more visual, and keep a consistent schedule.

Thanks for reading, let me know what your goals are for 2021 and beyond, and see you in the next post! :)   Lucy x

How to improve your wellbeing

Photo by  Natalie  from  Pexels I have always been someone to love talking about the importance of focusing on and improving your own mental health and well-being in order to help others. In today's blog post, I would like to share a few actions you can take in order to make improvements to your well-being overall. I am hoping to ensure this is beneficial for all! Enjoy! Take everything one day and one step at a time According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), stress is a global health epidemic. It is very common (and of course completely normal) for us to have an overwhelming amount of stress built up in our heads over certain aspects of everyday life. Someone once told me to just breathe and take everyday as it comes, rather than trying to reach perfection in a day. So, if you have 5 long essays due all in the month for example, focus on them one by one. Perhaps break down the word count instead of trying to write the essay from beginning to end. I had a...

Profile Interview: A life of a successful physics professor

Photo by  Ivy Barn  on  Unsplash Sat comfortably in the quiet dining room of my small village house, professor of medical physics, Angela Newing describes how wonderful her career journey has been and the privileges she has had along the way. She speaks in a tone that instantly hints the hard work and dedication she has put into her career along the years, mostly looking down at the table and taking herself back to the very beginning. Now living in Stroud, Gloucestershire, she tells me about working in a time when women were perhaps not encouraged to enter the world of science. Born in London during the war, Newing had an enjoyable childhood with her older brother who claims with laughter and pride that she did "everything better than him." They were inseparable. This was the start of Newing's drive and determination to lead a successful career in medical physics. "I think my first memory in Woburn, and I was fairly tiny, was when we arrived at the back d...

A Letter to my School Bullies/ 11-15 Year Old Self

"Just know that you did not fully break me" Dear bullies, Remember me? I can't believe I haven't been in touch with you to say this yet, but now its time. I struggle to know how you sleep at night, knowing the unbearable pain you caused to an innocent little girl for all those years. I just want to start off by making it clear that you have actually improved my future. Thanks to you, I've been able to work harder, inspire people, inspire myself and my friends and family. I have not been afraid to say no to opportunities that you could probably only dream of. I have become courageous, strong, and a person that you quite frankly will NEVER be. The light that you stole from that young girl has now returned and I am better and happier than I've ever been before. I'm not sure what you were hoping to achieve from the persistent laughing, name- calling, death threats and sick jokes you drowning me in, but I have created so much positivity from this like yo...
