1. Networking and helping others

"A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal."- Steve Maraboli

Surrounding yourself with positive people can really help to calm your stress levels. Sometimes we find ourselves being around the wrong people as I have mentioned in previous posts. If you surround yourself with uplifting and encouraging people who cheer you on, chances are your stress levels will decrease as a result. Also, helping others can make you feel happier and reduce stress. Always make sure that you put yourself first though. 😊

2. Time-management skills

There are many time-management courses out there that you can take if you feel that you would like help to manage your time better and break down tasks into more manageable chunks.

I have spoken about time-management methods on my various platforms such as the Pomodoro technique, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the 80s. Read more here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6678294274460803072-wapo

3. Relaxing, calming sounds

There are many different sounds that people find relaxing. One sound/ piece of music that is considered "the most relaxing in the world" is Weightless by Marconi Union.

Read the article by the independent about this song here:

The song can be accessed via YouTube and many other streaming services.

4. Self- acceptance

Sometimes working on cutting back and calming our own negative and intrusive thoughts can help with stress relief. If you have a weight on your shoulders, perhaps turn to meditation and mindfulness methods to lift the weight off. There are many that can be accessed on YouTube that I have found really helpful and still continue to find helpful. I may share a playlist of my favourite in the future. Also, a good top-tip is to focus on your breath and focus on the present moment- notice when your mind has shifted away or back into the past.

My main tip for this is to put some sticky notes around your room or wherever you go most. Write positive and motivational affirmations on these notes. It can be anything from a daily goal to something that you like about yourself. It can also be an inspirational quote that always pushes you to be your best self and do your best.

5. Seeking help- and not being afraid to!

Do you have a go-to number to call or a person you can contact if you feel anxious and stressed? It really is always important to have someone to turn to when you really need some support. It is also 100% okay to reach out for help. Whether this is mental health, academic or work-related stress... it's key to life! Any problem is better out than in and if you need someone by your side in any difficult situation, that is totally okay.

How to improve your wellbeing

Photo by  Natalie  from  Pexels I have always been someone to love talking about the importance of focusing on and improving your own mental health and well-being in order to help others. In today's blog post, I would like to share a few actions you can take in order to make improvements to your well-being overall. I am hoping to ensure this is beneficial for all! Enjoy! Take everything one day and one step at a time According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), stress is a global health epidemic. It is very common (and of course completely normal) for us to have an overwhelming amount of stress built up in our heads over certain aspects of everyday life. Someone once told me to just breathe and take everyday as it comes, rather than trying to reach perfection in a day. So, if you have 5 long essays due all in the month for example, focus on them one by one. Perhaps break down the word count instead of trying to write the essay from beginning to end. I had a...

Profile Interview: A life of a successful physics professor

Photo by  Ivy Barn  on  Unsplash Sat comfortably in the quiet dining room of my small village house, professor of medical physics, Angela Newing describes how wonderful her career journey has been and the privileges she has had along the way. She speaks in a tone that instantly hints the hard work and dedication she has put into her career along the years, mostly looking down at the table and taking herself back to the very beginning. Now living in Stroud, Gloucestershire, she tells me about working in a time when women were perhaps not encouraged to enter the world of science. Born in London during the war, Newing had an enjoyable childhood with her older brother who claims with laughter and pride that she did "everything better than him." They were inseparable. This was the start of Newing's drive and determination to lead a successful career in medical physics. "I think my first memory in Woburn, and I was fairly tiny, was when we arrived at the back d...

A Letter to my School Bullies/ 11-15 Year Old Self

"Just know that you did not fully break me" Dear bullies, Remember me? I can't believe I haven't been in touch with you to say this yet, but now its time. I struggle to know how you sleep at night, knowing the unbearable pain you caused to an innocent little girl for all those years. I just want to start off by making it clear that you have actually improved my future. Thanks to you, I've been able to work harder, inspire people, inspire myself and my friends and family. I have not been afraid to say no to opportunities that you could probably only dream of. I have become courageous, strong, and a person that you quite frankly will NEVER be. The light that you stole from that young girl has now returned and I am better and happier than I've ever been before. I'm not sure what you were hoping to achieve from the persistent laughing, name- calling, death threats and sick jokes you drowning me in, but I have created so much positivity from this like yo...
